Common Application Form
History M.A. Admission Requirements
1. Students must comply with all University and College of Arts and
Humanities
procedures and requirements for admission to graduate degree-seeking
status.
2. Applicants must have
completed at least 12 hours of upper-level
undergraduate history credits, with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better.
3. College graduates who do
not meet these requirements may petition to enter
the
history MA program by alternate admission. After reviewing the
applicant's
transcript and letters of recommendation, and if deemed necessary,
interviewing
the
candidate personally, the history graduate faculty may, at its
discretion, allow
the
applicant to attempt to enter the program through the following two-step
process:
a. Attaining a passing grade on a writing exercise to be assigned and
evaluated by the Graduate Studies Committee of the College of LIberal
Arts.
b.
Attaining a score equal to or above the national mean of the GRE
Advanced Examination in History.
The alternate admissions
procedure substitutes only for the 12-hour History
undergraduate and GRE or
Graduate Entry Point requirements listed above. All
other University, College,
and History faculty admissions procedures and
requirements apply to these
candidates. International students must have their
credentials evaluated for
their equivalent value according to standard University
procedure and meet other
specified University admissions requirements.
A graduate with 12 hours of
upper-division history coursework from an accredited
undergraduate institution
and a 3.0 G.P.A. in the last 60 hours of course work
may be given temporary
status for one term. Students with temporary status may
accrue no more than 6 hours
of graduate credit towards the M.A. prior to being
formally admitted to the
program.
